Our Story

Le Café is a neighborhood bakery, coffeehouse and meeting place on Chicago's Lakefront, where we offer a variety of healthy options for both food and drink.  Le Café is the brainchild behind Pastry Chef and Integrative Nutritional Health Coach, Danielle Papakanelou,  whose own auto-immune health struggle  fueled her passion on making sure people make, and have healthy choices.  If you don't do gluten, or leave out the dairy, and stay away from refined sugar... our motto says its all...

The coffeehouse features highly skilled baristas that get help from local Chicago roaster Metric coffee. Our baristas go through vigorous training to ensure your coffee experience exceeds your highest standards.  We carry Metric Nitro Cold Brew on tap and authentic Bulletproof Coffee™ and for the Non-Coffee drinker we carry organic cold pressed juices, diary free smoothies, as well as our house made Golden Mylk.

Bakery & Pastry

Our breads and pastries are freshly baked each morning by Pastry Chef Danielle and the watchful eye of her mom, Pam.  They are made from scratch, where we are committed to using only the finest, organic and non-gmo ingredients.  Most, but not all, of our recipes are baked with a dietary restriction in mind, where we don’t compromise on flavor but rather maintain our promise of nourishing the mind, body and soul through our food and goodies.

Our Food 

In maintaining our promise of nourishing the mind, body and soul through our food, breakfast sounded like the way to start a balanced day.  We make everything we can from scratch and source the finest ingredients from local farmers and vendors.  We use freshly baked organic breads for our breakfast sandwiches and paninis and make them in house daily.
